This is a three-year research initiative developed in Chile and funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) through its Research Rings program. The project aims to generate high-level knowledge and technology to address national challenges and specific problems, thereby developing human capital and strengthening the country's science and technology landscape. These projects are built on broad, multidisciplinary collaboration among national and international researchers, and frequently involve participation from non-academic sectors.

Waters in Chile: use, management, and conflicts

This course provides an up-to-date perspective on the physical, legal, and management status of water in Chile. It examines its sectoral use and the national and international conflicts that have emerged in recent years regarding this vital issue. As such, it makes a significant contribution to the training of future professionals from UC, equipping them with interdisciplinary knowledge on a subject of great importance for the country

The 2025 Water Talks

During June 2025, the UC Center for Water Law and Management, in partnership with the General Water Directorate (DGA) of the Ministry of Public Works, kicked off the third edition of the Water Talks series.

These sessions provided an open forum for the community to join stakeholders from the public and academic sectors in reflecting on the primary challenges of water management in our country.

Over the course of four hybrid sessions held at the UC Main Campus, the series tackled key themes from an interdisciplinary perspective, incorporating regulatory analysis, technological tools, and frameworks for climate change adaptation.

Launch of the book “Droughts in Chile: Impacts, Monitoring, and Adaptation (Management) Policies”

This publication offers an interdisciplinary analysis of drought, bringing together perspectives from Law, Economics, Engineering, Geography, and other areas. It features case studies from Chile, Spain, Australia, California, and South America. Comprising 20 chapters and a foreword, the book puts forward tools for monitoring, risk management, and strategies for adapting to drought in various contexts.

Launch of Chile's Fog Water Map

The UC Center for Water Law and Management is proud to be part of a pioneering milestone for the nation's water management: the creation of the first free, open-access platform that provides information on potentially harvestable fog water on a month-by-month basis for the coastal areas of northern and central Chile.

Launch of the Compilations of Jurisprudence for the Water and Sanitation Sector

On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the Center for Water Law and Management (CDGA), in partnership with the Superintendency of Sanitary Services (SISS), hosted the seminar: “Launch of the Compilations of Jurisprudence for the Water and Sanitation Sector: Key Rulings and Criteria from the Ordinary Courts of Justice and the SISS.”

Strengthening Water Governance for Resilient Societies

As part of the ANID Research Ring project ATE230046, launched in 2024, we are analyzing key global trends in river basin management to identify applicable lessons for Chile. The project's goal is to enhance community resilience by promoting the integrated and sustainable management of the nation's water resources.

World Water Day 2025 Seminar: Glaciers and Watershed Headwaters – Strategic Cornerstones for Water Security.

Join us on March 26th at the UC Main Campus to commemorate World Water Day. This event is co-organized in partnership with the Antofagasta Minerals Water Sustainability Chair, the UC Global Change Center, the UC Atacama Desert Center, the Institute for Sustainable Development, and the Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering.

The event will feature an awards presentation by the Chair, followed by a panel discussion titled, "Glaciers and Watershed Headwaters: Strategic Cornerstones for Water Security."

Water-Themed Short Story Contest

#OpenCall Enter our short story contest on the theme of water, held this year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the UC Center for Water Law and Management.
 

The competition has three categories: Children (up to age 12), Youth (ages 13-19), and Adult (ages 20+).
